Smartwatches are one of the most exciting innovations in mobile technology, and there are some fantastic devices available already. This clever wearable technology links to your smartphone, allowing you to interact with all sorts of information and notifications without ever taking it out of your pocket. We’re going to take a look at one of the best devices on the market at the moment, the LG G Watch R.
The LG G Watch R is designed to work with Android phones (version 4.3 and up), and is the first smartwatch with a completely circular face. This means it’s one of the only devices that actually looks like a classic watch, rather than the more common angular shapes of many others models.
Another great feature of this LG smartwatch’s display is that it’s always on, so you don’t have to press or tap anything to check the time. You can also choose from a wide range of analogue and digital watch faces for a personalised look, and change them to match your mood or your clothes. The strap is also changeable for more customisation options.
As well as its fantastic looks, The LG G Watch R also has some pretty impressive performance. It uses Android Wear as its operating system, giving you access to a host of apps, as well as a selection of information cards that can be swiped away, such as travel times to and from work or home, weather reports, or a step counter. This is all powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, and 512MB of RAM, which means everything feels smooth and responsive.
The main clock face is where you start, and you swipe from side to side or up and down for different options. For example, if someone calls you, can swipe right to left to accept, or left to right to reject. Or you can even swipe up to send an instant text saying you’ll call them back. There are also voice commands for doing everything from setting alarms to making phone calls - particularly useful if you’re driving.
There are also lots of other apps designed to work with the LG G Watch R, such as Google Maps, which gives you turn by turn directions for easy navigation when you’re out and about. If you’re into keeping fit, there’s an inbuilt heart-rate monitor and pedometer, so you can keep track of how many steps you’re doing per day, as well as keep an eye on your vitals when exercising. You can also find many other Android Wear apps for your favourite social media networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp.
The battery life of the LG G Watch R means you only have to charge it every other day, and the charging cradle is magnetic and designed to fit the watch perfectly, so you can easily just drop it in for an overnight charge. This does mean you have to remember to take it with you if you’re travelling, however, as there’s no other way to charge it.
The LG G Watch R really is one of the very best smartwatches available right now, and one that really does the job of packing all that technology into something that looks and behaves like a proper watch. It has the power give you a fast and smooth experience, and great design for a stylish and customisable look.
