iPhone 7 Tips and Tricks

If you’ve already got the new iPhone, or you’re thinking about getting one, we’ve put together some iPhone 7 tips so you can get the most out of your device:
1. Take a picture without unlocking
iOS 10 allows you to access your camera without having to unlock your phone, which is perfect for capturing those great photo opportunities. Just swipe right to left on the lock screen to instantly bring up the camera. This will still keep your existing photos safe though, and you won’t be able to access any other apps. The iPhone 7’s camera has been improved with more resolution and greater zoom, too, so you’ll be able to take even more stunning photos.
2. Using headphones while charging
The iPhone 7 takes away the headphone jack, which has definitely drawn a few comments, but there are ways around the problem this causes when you want to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time. The simplest solution is to use wireless Bluetooth headphones, but you can also get an adapter that turns one Lightning port into two, like this one from Belkin, so you can stick with your favourite wired headphones.
3. Don’t drop your phone in the bath
The iPhone 7 is now water resistant, but what does that actually mean? The standard of protection offered by the iPhone means it can survive being dropped in the bath for around 30 minutes, but it doesn’t mean you should be keeping it in your bathing suit when you go for a dip. Water damage can still happen, and the phone will need to dry out before you can use it. The protection against water getting in can decrease over time, so you should still be careful with completely submerging your phone.
4. Send secret messages
If you want to send something private or sensitive, you can use the new iMessage invisible ink setting. This means when the recipient gets the message they will need to tap it to read it, so no one looking over their shoulder will be able to see what you’ve sent. The message will also be covered up again after a few seconds to keep it safe. Just tap and hold the send arrow until the options come up, and then tap ‘invisible ink’ when you send a message.
5. Get more on the lock screen
iOS 10 allows you to do all sorts of cool things with the lock screen. Swiping from left to right will take you to a new page of widgets giving you all sorts of info such as weather, messages, and reminders. All the most important information is now in one place and at your fingertips, and the screen will automatically turn on when you pick up the phone. To get to all your apps, you just need to press the home button to unlock your phone.
6. Use your phone for DIY
A handy little feature that you might have missed, the iPhone 7 features a spirit level. Just head into the compass app and swipe to the left and you’ll find it. It gives you the exact inclination, so you could put up shelves and make sure they’re perfectly straight. Or use it to see if any flat surface is wonky!
