Giving Your Home a Makeover

Spring is the perfect opportunity to give your home a bit of love and attention, and it doesn't just have to be spring cleaning. If your rooms are lacking style and looking a bit tired, there are lots of simple and easy ways you can inject a bit of life back into your home.
We’ve put together a few of our favourite tips to give you some inspiration, so you can have a go at a bit of interior design and do you own home makeover.
Sort the clutter
There’s no point in thinking of a new colour for your bedroom wall if you can’t even get to it because of the mess. If your surfaces and floors are covered in clutter, unwashed clothes, toys, and discarded paperwork, you need to get in there are start sorting. Pick one room at a time to focus on, and just throw out anything that doesn’t need to be there, and find permanent homes for anything that does. If you can’t find a space for something, you need to either get rid of it or put it into storage.
Pick a new colour
A really easy way to refresh your home is to paint the walls in a new shade. If a room always feels a bit dark and dismal, paint it in a brighter colour; or if it feels cold and unwelcoming, choose a warmer shade, and perhaps add a feature wall with patterned wallpaper to give a touch of style. Try out a few tester pots in different parts of the room first, particularly in areas of varying light and shade. Paint can end up looking very different under different lighting conditions, so make sure you like it before starting on the entire room.
Refresh the furnishings
This doesn’t necessarily mean throwing out everything and starting again, but make note of which pieces of furniture stand out to you the most in a negative way. Is there a drawer that gets stuck whenever you try to open it, or a wobbly side table, or that frayed edge of the sofa you always notice when you walk into the room? Prioritise what really needs to be replaced, and see how other items can be fixed or revitalised, either through a lick of paint, or some simple repairs. If your curtains have become tired and dusty, give them a good wash and iron, or consider replacing them with blinds for a cleaner and more contemporary look.
Add small touches
Not everything you do has to be a big change; there are lots of small things you can do to help make your home feel refreshed. Place a mirror on the opposite wall to the window to instantly add light and spaciousness. Fresh flowers or indoor plants are a really easy way to add colour and life to your home. Place a small vase of colourful flowers on your bedside table to add a touch of luxury, and add an indoor plant to your bathroom – they love the humidity. Dig out all those family photos that are just sitting in boxes, and get them framed and displayed on a bookcase or shelf to make any room feel like home.
