Posted 31/12/2013 by BrightHouse Team
2013 has seen some big events in the gaming world, from some fantastic new releases to the arrival of the latest generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles. As the year draws to a close we can start looking forward to what 2014 will bring to our screens, from exciting movie tie-ins to new additions in some of the biggest game series.
We’ve put together a selection of the best new games to be released over the next couple of months:
Mario Party: Island Tour
Island Tour is the latest in the Mario Party series, and is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive that’s perfect for kids. The game plays a bit like a traditional board-game, with players competing to reach the winning square or collect the most prizes. Players challenge each other in minigames along the way such as boat races, archery, and tank battles, making great use of the 3DS’s many controls and inputs. You can play with up to four friends with their own devices, and everyone can share one copy of the game while you’re connected.
Released on 17th January for Nintendo 3DS
The Lego Movie Videogame
The hugely popular series of Lego videogames continues with this instalment based on the upcoming Lego Movie. The game will allow players to control a whole host of characters from the film, using their individual skills to make their way through each level. Unlike previous Lego videogames, the environments in this release will be entirely made from Lego pieces, with all sorts of objects to build and destroy, and lots of secrets to find.
Released on 14th February for Xbox 360 & One, PlayStation 3 & 4, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PC
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
The original Plants vs. Zombies was a simple, fun and hilarious game where you were tasked with defending your home from a shuffling hoard of the undead by planting a variety of aggressive vegetation in the garden. Garden Warfare takes the concept and expands it to a full third-person multiplayer shooter experience, where you can play as members of either team to defeat your foe. All the familiar zombie and plant types will be present, as well as some new ones, with options to customise your favourites to make them even more deadly/hilarious.
Released on 20th February for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC
The series that basically invented stealth gameplay back in 1998 with Thief: The Dark Project is getting a reboot with this brand new game. Garrett returns as the master thief, sneaking his way around the mysterious City to steal from the rich and outsmart the authorities. The City is a dark and dangerous place ruled over by a tyrant called ‘The Baron’, and while the poor are suffering under a rampant plague, the rich are getting richer, and Garrett intends to use the situation to fill his own pockets.
Released on 28th February Xbox 360 & One, PlayStation 3 & 4, and PC
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
This action-adventure sequel is to be the last in the Lords of Shadow series, and there are a few changes in this instalment. The setting has shifted to the modern era, where we find Gabriel Belmont, the returning main character of the previous games, living as a vampire under the name of Dracula. The game is now open-world, so you’re free to choose your own path in the lengthier story mode, and you have a new set of weapons to get to grips with.
