Style Guide: How to Create a Relaxing Bedroom
Posted 25/02/2014 by BrightHouse Team
Creating the perfect bedroom is all about making a calm and relaxing space. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary away from all the noise and clutter of everyday life; somewhere that allows you to unwind at the end of the day.
With a few simple design tips you can turn any bedroom into the perfect haven of tranquillity:
The right bed – Naturally, the bed is the most important thing in your bedroom, and if it’s old, creaky, or uncomfortable then it will ruin any chance of getting a relaxing night’s sleep. Your bed also makes the biggest style statement, so choose a design that you love to look at, as well as a mattress that gives the right amount of support and comfort.
Neutral colours – While most people like a bit of colour in a room, over-bright or colourful decor will create the opposite of a calming atmosphere. It’s best to use neutral shades or softer colours to create a base for the overall look of your room. If you definitely want to use colour, choose something like a dusky blue or light pastels.
Textures – You can add a bit of personality with the thoughtful use of fabrics. A variety of shades and textures will add depth, and you can use soft furnishings to add style and luxury, such as some scatter cushions on the bed, a luxurious throw or blanket, and a comfy rug on the floor. Choosing bedding that compliments the colours and patterns of the room is also an easy way to add a stylish touch.
Tidy up – This is one of the most important things you can do to help make your bedroom a relaxing space. If you always have piles of clothes on the floor, and every surface is covered with clutter and rubbish, it’s very difficult to properly relax. Keeping your bedroom tidy is essential to keeping it a pleasant space to be in. If you find you don’t have enough space to put everything, you either need to rethink your storage, or have a good clear-out.
Details – Thoughtful details will complete the look of your room. A few pieces of artwork or pictures on the walls can add a lot of style without much effort, and some striking photo frames will add a personal touch. If you have quite a small room, blinds rather than curtains on the windows will help to keep the space uncluttered, and use bedside lamps that emit soft light to create a calming atmosphere to help you relax before going to sleep.
